What is a computer?
A computer is an electronic device, operating under the control of instructions stored in its own memory that can accept data (Input), process the data according to specified rules, produce information (Output), and store the information for future use.
Components of computer
Computer consists of Hardware and Software.
Hardware: The physical parts (or) components of a computer such as the Monitor, Mouse, Keyboard, Computer data storage, Hard Disk Drive (HDD) , System unit (Graphic cards, Sound cards, Memory, Mother board and chips). All are physical objects that can be touched.
Software: Software is a organized collection of computer data and instructions, often broken into two major categories: System software that provides the basic non task-specific functions of the computer, and Application software which is used by users to accomplish specific tasks.
Input and Output devices:
Monitor (Output):
A computer monitor is an electronic device that displays information in a pictorial form. Monitor looks like television. Monitors doesn't have television tuners to change channels, this is the main difference between monitor and television. Monitors generally have high resolution than television.
Keyboard (Input) :
Keyboard is a input device, by using this we can enter Letters, Numbers, and other symbols (together, these are called characters) into a computer.
Mouse (Input):
A mouse is a handheld pointing device that detects two dimensional motion relative to a surface. This motion is typically translated into the motion of a pointer on a display, which allows a smooth control of the graphic user interface of a computer.
Inventor: Sommer, Douglas Engelbart
Printer (Output):
Printer is a device that accepts text and graphics output from a computer and transfers the information to paper.
Speakers (Output):
Monitor Resolution:
Monitor is made of pixels.
Monitor resolution is measured in Pixels, Width by Height.
1280X 1155 resolution means that the screen is 1280 pixels wide by 1155 tall.
Pixels are so close together that they appear connected. A pixel is the smallest element of a video image, but not the smallest element of a monitor's screen.
Since each pixel must be made up of three separate colors, there are smaller red, green, and blue dots.
The sharpness of the image on a display depends on the resolution and the size of the monitor. The same pixel resolution will be sharper on a smaller monitor and gradually loose sharpness on large monitors because same number of pixels are being spread out over a larger number of inches.
Pixels are arranged in to dimension grids.
They are often represented by square.
